Our Mission and Vision

Tails of Love Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit made up of a group of passionate volunteers dedicated to raising awareness, rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming Native American Reservation dogs.

Why are we dedicated to reservation dogs?

Tails of Love Rescue is dedicated to supporting and rescuing stray dogs. The focus of the group is on the Reservation dog that has very few champions for their cause.

There is an epidemic of homeless dogs on the White Mountain Apache reservation. Many people want to help but lack the resources to undertake this task and neighboring shelters simply don’t have the facilities to extend their services to reservation dogs.

With very few organizations providing resources and shelter, these dogs are left to fend for themselves in homeless populations leaving them open to tick, flea, and mange infestations, vulnerable to diseases such as Rocky Mountain Fever, Distemper, Parvo, Rabies and more.

It is Tails of Love Rescue’s goal to rescue and foster dogs, bringing them back to full health so they can become adoptable, loving pets. We use our partners to transport dogs ready for forever homes into adoption centers here in Arizona and surrounding states and do direct adoptions on Facebook.

Who We Are

We are a passionate group of volunteers committed to raising awareness and providing care for dogs in need from the White Mountains Apache Reservation and the surrounding community.

Our rescue is a grassroots effort, and through the support of our community, volunteers, and donors, we have grown, saving thousands of dogs and cats. We have brought mass spay and neuter to the White Mountain Apache Reservation. We are hands-on in the streets, feeding, medicating, and rescuing homeless dogs and puppies, but we know that won’t solve the problem. As we continue to grow, we’ll expand and become a community educational, awareness and funding resource. But we can do very little without your help.

Most of our founding volunteers worked on or near the White Mountain Apache Indian Hospital. After seeing the condition of the starving dogs that came to the hospital begging for handouts, they knew something had to be done and formed a coalition to meet and discuss what could be done to help these animals in need. They quickly became aware of others with the same goal in mind and formed Tails of Love Rescue.

We currently have volunteers who regularly feed homeless dogs on the reservation as well as those who actively remove, rehabilitate and foster dogs who need intervention (i.e. they will undoubtedly die without removal from their current environment.)

Finding Furever Homes

Through our dedicated foster network and partnerships with various rescue organizations, we strive to rehabilitate and care for dogs facing health challenges or emergency situations. Our mission is to provide these vulnerable animals with the attention and medical care they need, ensuring they regain their health and vitality. Each dog receives the love and support to help them overcome their difficulties, ultimately preparing them for adoption into loving forever homes. We believe every dog deserves a second chance, and we work tirelessly to create a safe and nurturing environment for them to heal. With the help of our compassionate volunteers and generous supporters, we are committed to making a difference in the lives of these inspiring animals until they can embark on their new journey with a family that will cherish them.

Spay & Neuter

Overpopulation of dogs and cats on the reservation has reached epidemic proportions, exacerbated by a lack of resources for spaying and neutering.

Recognizing this critical issue, we have partnered with organizations like Animal Balance to launch mash-style spay and neuter clinics. These clinics, staffed by volunteer veterinarians from across the United States, have successfully operated on multiple weekends, fixing between 150 to 200 animals each time.

With the continued support of our community and partners, we aim to sustain these efforts for this underserved population, ultimately reducing the number of homeless dogs on the reservation. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of these animals and promote a healthier, more balanced environment.

In our commitment to fostering a healthier community, we offer free vaccinations to the White Mountain Apache Reservation to safeguard against rabies outbreaks and the devastating toll of parvo and distemper, alongside treatments for fleas, ticks, and mange. These efforts are crucial in reducing the risk of Rocky Mountain spotted fever, which poses a significant threat in our area. Many dogs that come into rescue suffer from tick-borne diseases, but we ensure they receive the full support and treatment they need for recovery. By providing these essential services at no cost and educating community members on the simplicity of curing conditions like mange, as well as the importance of tick and flea protection, we aim to create a safer environment. Ultimately, our initiatives not only contribute to the well-being of animals but also promote public health, leading to a more informed and healthier community overall.
